“1080dots announces the perfect solution for Digital Signage Networks. The 1080dots DS Player+ adds playlist control, content updates and content scheduling that can all be controlled online. Any open Content Management System can control the players by generating instructions in XML. And you can keep Adobe Photoshop as your favorite editing tool for template design. Content and design is completely separated, which means that the consistency in the corporate style is secured. Templates designed in Adobe Photoshop can be dragged and dropped into the 1080dots Player. The player can interpret the Photoshop file and converts it directly into an XML-based, editable digital signage template. As an independent unit, the player is able to get all kinds of new data: Content (internal and external, for example rss feeds), templates, playlist instructions or a 1080dots software upgrade. Thanks to the pull mechanism option, 1080dots is easy to integrateinto secure corporate networks.” Source

Scion’s new “Brand Manifesto” campaign is the latest salvo of hip, colorful advertising meant to strike a chord with the Toyota brand’s young demographic. The pitch for Scion in general is “vehicle as self-expression,” and Simon Needham, co-founder and creative director at the creative agency ATTIK (San Francisco, CA), was tasked with figuring out ways to convey the personality of three different Scion models on TV, online, in print, and in out-of-home media. ATTIK co-directed two spots with production company Shilo and a third with Imaginary Forces. Rendering, compositing, and finishing were provided by Method Studios, with music by Face the Music. The first spot, “Explosion,” promotes the Scion xD with sharp visuals that echo certain characteristics of the car’s design. Watch the spot, below, then read our Q&As with Needham and Shilo co-founder and creative director Jose Gomez for more on their collaborative approach. Source

Here’s an interesting article on using the Panasonic AG-HPX300 as they go to camera for shoulder mounted documentary style filming. “Veteran director of photography Steven Poster, ASC recently shot two pilot segments of a dance-centric documentary series ‘Tap Dreams’ with Panasonic’s new AG-HPX300 P2 HD shoulder-mount camcorders. Tap Dreams is produced, written and directed by Dean Hargrove, whose award-winning 2004 short Tap Heat starred Jason Samuels Smith and Chloe Arnold, tap luminaries who headline the new project.” The team relied strictly on the P2 workflow using an on site asset manager to dump footage and mirror a drive to be sent off for dailies. The film is being edited on FCP. Check out more details over at DV or on Steven Posters website. Source
